Nov 9, 2004 _ Getting Closer to Closing Our sales person called today and told us that they are working this week on the yard and putting in the sprinkler and sod and we should have our fence this week also. They will be putting in carpet this coming Monday morning. He also said that we would need to schedule a date to do the initial walk through in the next 2 weeks. Most of what's left is finishing painting the house, and cleaning up.

in The stairway now has
a handrail. Lynsy can rest easy now. Every time we would go up the stairs,
Lynsy would ask us if they were going to put in a handrail. I guess she
was worried that they would finish the house without it. The fireplace
mantle has also been installed, and it looks really nice. The only problem
is that it isn't the one that we ordered. I'm sure they will have it
replaced this week, but it's still nice to see progress. Sep 23, 2004 - Sheetrock Part

Kitchen Drama Leah was a little worried about the way that the counter top was going to turn out as well. We knew that the model home had a nice u-shaped counter, that would allow for lots of room for decorations in the kitchen, and still leave plenty of counter space for setting out plates, ect. Leah had been trying to get some feedback from the builder the last week about how this was going to turn out, and she even drove out there today to see how some other homes turned out. When she went out to Savannah, the saleslady was busy helping someone else, and Leah went out to a couple of other similar homes to see how the counter ended up. The funny thing is that no two of them were the same, but she did find one that seemed to have the exact same kitchen layout as ours. In this kitchen the counter space was choked down to 3 or 4 inches on either side of the window, the cabinets were missing on either side of the window, and the cabinets under the window were only 12 inches deep. Leah wasn't very happy with the way thing were turning out. She called me at work several times, and then I called the saleslady who told me that the cabinets were already ordered and they couldn't change the way things were. After hearing Leah say she wasn't going to purchase the house if the kitchen looked like that, I ended up taking off work early and we all drove out to Savannah. I knew that I would never get any peace until this issue was solved. We met with the builder and the saleslady at the house to discuss the issue in person. It turns out that the model home, as well as several other houses, were not done correctly. He finally explained to us that there would be counters on either side of the window, and that the counter would be even wider by the window than it was in the model house. We even get the full sized 24 inch cabinets under the counter. If only the saleslady would have had half the knowledge that the builder did, we could have settled this issue two weeks ago. (Click here for pictures of the different kitchens) Sep 5, 2004 The exterior of the house is mostly done. So until they get around to painting the house, adding doors, grass, or some other major change, we won't be updating this page with outside pictures of the house. Instead, we will focus more on what's happening on the inside. So check back later to see what's going on the inside of the house.
August 29, 2004 The arches are done, the roof is shingled, and the vent pipes are now visible on the roof line. It shouldn't be too long before we start getting some good pictures of the progress on the inside.
August 22, 2004 15 days since the first piece of framework went up. Since they put the windows in you can start getting a feel for how it will look when it is finished.
August 15, 2004 It's only been three days since our last visit, but it looks more like a house and less like a frame. We took some pictures on the inside that you can see on the pics page.
August 12, 2004 A drive out to our house today and we got to see some of the workers in action. You'll also notice in the right hand side of the first picture that there is some framework for another house that wasn't there 4 days ago.
August 8, 2004 Our Sunday drive was very exciting today. Before we even got to our lot we were surprised to see some framework! Things are finally starting to look somewhat like a house now.
August 4, 2004 We now have foundation! And we also noticed many stacks of wood around our lot that we assume are to start the framework - YEAH!
July 25, 2004 Time to pour the foundation! We took our Sunday drive out to our lot today and were pleasently happy to see that things are all set to pour the foundation this week. Also our sidewalk and steps are ready for their cement also. I'm feeling pretty positive that next week's update will include a picture of our foundation. It's only a matter of weeks before we start seeing the framework go up and things will get real exciting then!
July 18, 2004 We have plumbing! We now have plumbing and we've passed the plumbing inspection! YEAH! Next step is to pour the foundation!
July 11, 2004 On your mark, get set, GO! We got a call from our builder this last Friday that was really good news. Since it isn't raining every day now it looks like they are able to actually do some work on the house. They finally finished putting up the forms for the foundation, and they are supposed to have the plumbing done by this Tuesday. If everything goes well, the foundation will be poured by this weekend. Check back next Monday to find out if every thing is going as planned.
June 18, 2004 Meeting with the Builder We had our meeting with the builder today and went over the blueprints and all the specifics. We got a few pleasant surprises and a few unpleasant ones as well. We learned that with the corner lot we'll get more trees and alot more landscaping than what was stated in our 'standards' sheet. And the smoothtop oven that we picked out (that the decorator told us was a standard and wrote it up as standard) actually was not a standard option but the builder 'let it slide' and isn't charging us for it. (When we wrote our contract we talked the saleslady into writing in $1350 credit towards a refrigerator, and wouldn't you know, at the decorator meeting there was a very nice side-by-side with water and ice on the door that just so happened to be $1350, can't beat a free fridge) On the unpleasant side, we signed our contract back in the early part of spring but things have been pretty slow toward progress as we've run into little 'kinks'. Our meeting with the saleslady to look at our blueprints ended up being a mess as they had the wrong blueprints for our house, then our saleslady was transferred to a different division and our file sat around untouched for almost 4 weeks and no one knew that the builder still did not have the correct blueprints. He now has the correct blueprints but not the engineer prints so that the foundation can be poured......ends up we won't be able to move into our new house until the middle of December (which I guess turns out to be not so bad since we can move during the kids Christmas break and they can just change schools after Christmas at the beginning of the year when everyone else goes back to school). Anyway, here's a picture of our 'dirt' (the builder said we should see foundation by July 20th, look for updated pictures after then)
